Delhi Metro trains for Ghaziabad

The Delhi Metro service has made traveling to and fro within Delhi and NCR easier and less time consuming.  Following the footsteps of the Delhi Development Authority, the Ghaziabad Development Authority too has decided to introduce new lines within Ghaziabad to make commuting simpler for the common man. The first project of the Metro Line in Ghaziabad is at Vaishali. This line was inaugurated on 14th July’ 2011 as an extension to the Blue Line Metro route from Anand Vihar Metro Station in Delhi. Since its first service, commuters from Ghaziabad are now able to save a lot of time and hassle while traveling to Delhi. This corridor connects Vaishali with Rajeev Chowk which is also one of the transfer metro stations in Delhi. Unlike earlier people from Ghaziabad can now reach Rajeev Chowk in just 20 minutes.

The MOU of the GDA and DDA states that the work for the new metro lines in Ghaziabad will be completed in 3 phases. There are 3 proposed metro lines to be built within Ghaziabad. The second phase or route is from Vaishali to Meharauli. This proposed route will have stations – Indirapuram, Noida Sec 62 crossing, CISF camp, Pratap Vihar, Vijay Nagar, Dundahera, Shahapur and finally Meharauli. This metro corridor will be a very beneficial route once operational since it would be covering not only Delhi, but Noida and Ghaziabad as well. People coming to work in Noida will benefit the most from this corridor as it would save them a lot of time. Work has not begun on this line as yet.

The third metro line is an extension on the ISBT(Delhi) – Dilshad Garden route. According to the plan, the line is to be extended till the new bus terminal located in the heart of Ghaziabad. Earlier this route was to terminate at Mohan Nagar itself, but owing to the large number of people visiting the terminal the line has been extended to the New Bus Terminal in Ghaziabad. The proposed metro line on this route will have 7 metro stations in Ghaziabad over a stretch of 8 kms. The first station will be Shahid Nagar, 2nd Raj Bagh, 3rd Rajendra Nagar,4th Shyam Park, 5th Mohan Nagar, 6th Arthala and the final station at the New Bus Stand. This line has been planned in order to link the Bus Terminals of Ghaziabad and Delhi, the estimated travel time between the 2 terminals will be just 25 minutes. There are talks that this line once operational may get an extension till Raj Nagar after some time.

It is only a matter of a few years that Ghaziabad will be well connected with Delhi and NCR through the proposed corridors. People will be able to reach their destinations faster without the hassles of traffic, discomfort of changing buses etc and within the comfort of the Metro. There are many more proposed routes in the pipeline too and decisions on those will be taken once the routes that have been given an approval are completed.
